Jurisdiction is the right of a legal agency to exercise its authority over a person, subject, matter or territory. The type of jurisdiction a trial court would have are general and original jurisdiction. General jurisdiction is the court’s authority to hear all kinds of cases that arise within its geographic area. It is the one that can hear different types of cases like a contracts law case.
