then x+y=52....................(1)
and 2x + 4y= 148..........................(2)
multiplying equation (1) by 2
we get
2x +2y = 104............................(3)
subtracting equation(3) from equation (2)
2y=44
y=22
that is x=52-22=30
there are 30 emus and 22 wombats

emu have 2 feet and 1 head
 wombat has 4 feet and 1 head

E = emu
W = Wombat

E +W = 52
2E +4W = 148

E = 52-W

2(52-W) + 4W = 148
104-2W +4W = 148
104 + 2W = 148
2W = 44
W = 44/2 = 22

E = 52-22 = 30

 there are 30 Emus
